Calphalon Tri-Ply Stainless-Steel 8-Quart Stockpot with Glass Lid Review
I’ve now had this Calphalon Tri-Ply 8 quart stockpot for almost a year. After I renovated my kitchen in the fall of 2008, I started replacing all my old cookware. Despite the fact that I was very unhappy with the 8-qt. Calphalon anodized aluminum stockpot that I’d had for maybe 20 years (the anodized surface had worn away inside and was down to bare aluminum and the bottom pitted), after doing my research on stockpots I decided to take a chance on the then-new Calphalon Tri-Ply line. I’m very glad I did. This stock pot boils water very fast, and keeps it boiling even when I turn the heat down low while I wait for the optimal time to put my pasta in. I love the glass lid, which lets me monitor the progress of the heating water. Another thing I love about this pot,is that it is wider across the top and not as tall as my previous stockpot. Which means that there is more surface area to accommodate pastas such as ravioli and gnocchi without crowding them. Also the slightly lower height of the pot makes it not only fit better on the stovetop underneath my microwave oven, but is easier to reach into with my spider or tongs for this decidedly petite cook.
Not to mention that it accommodates a lot of chicken or other meat for actual stocks and large quantities of soup.

I got this with a Christmas gift certificate this past Christmas and I love mine. I have had no problems with it at all. I do not put it in the dishwasher though and do not put any of my other pots/pans in either…I have always washed them by hand like my mom taught me….I came from a big family and the dishwasher was reserved for plates, glasses and utensils. I usually soak any of my pans that might require a brillo pad. I haven’t used a brillo in forever. I have not made tomato sauce (gravy) in mine yet, but have made a big pot of chilli and all was well. I do spray my pans that are not nonstick with cooking spray though before use. Maybe that is why nothing happened when I made the tomato based chilli. My other pots/pans are all-clad, but I WOULD buy this brand again. As a matter of fact, I am thinking of giving my baby sister a set for her birthday this fall as I think it is time she upgrade to a grown woman set..lol.
